Events Planned For 2011

Orange Unified School District Community Science Night
500 families from Orange and Placentia-Yorba Linda School Districts will be gathering on March 4th at Rancho Santiago College for an interactive science night. Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands on science experiments. The Tru Blu Breakaway robot will also be there to demonstrate our high school program and to encourage students to pursue a career in the science and engineering fields.

Orange County Youth Expo and Science Fair
Attended by thousands of OC residents, Youth Expo's three day event features fun, free, and hands-on activities for the whole family. We have submitted a proposal to be a demonstration on Saturday at the OC Science and Engineering Fair where hundreds of local students have submitted their science projects for adjudication. Winners at this event go on to the State Fair level. This event is a great venue to encourage students who are already thinking about having a career in science and engineering to pursue their studies in high school and college.
Orange County Public Library, Tustin Branch
We are planning on offering a story time reading program that will incorporate our Breakaway robot as well as possibly our Logo Motion robot. Our team captain volunteers at the library and is coordinating the event.

Girl and Boy Scouts Science Badge Workshops
A surprising number of Tru Blu team members and mentors are or have been involved in Girl and Boy Scouts. We are exploring and planning on hosting science badge workshops for local scouts. Because of the combined expertise of our members and an in depth knowledge of both programs, we feel uniquely situated to create a mutually beneficial opportunity for both the Girl and Boy scouts, their leaders, and the Tru Blu team. By having our Tru Blu students lead these workshops, we will be inspiring younger students to take more science classes in high school and develop the leadership and teaching skills of our team members. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience Three Keys: "Discover. Connect. Take Action" are perfectly fitted to our program.
